If you plan on watching it, you have to watch it in theatres, there is no other choice! The earth shaking surround sound makes it! Also, I can’t even say anything about it in real life because I promised my girlfriend I would lose my episode VII virginity with her next sunday. I am a terrible person. However, I am excited to see it again! I think it was better than episode IV (drops mic)

Off to see it in a few hours actually, good to know it’s good, I’ve only watched Ep 4, not a big Star Wars guy tbh, but I’m excited!

Saying it’s better than Episode IV is like saying a new Cadillac is better than a 70s one. The 70s Caddy has charm, but it’s worse. This is a well written, well shot, modern film.

If you’ve watched episode 4, you have a good baseline. All you need to know is Luke is missing after the end of the last movie, badabing you now know everything you need to to enjoy the film! Also Finn is the best star wars character ever!

Warning, the more you think about the movie, the worse it gets. I put it somewhere under Ep.1 and above Ep.6.

I saw it in 3d last night. I’m going to see it again probably Saturday with out 3d. The #D effect is fun and all but I think you miss out on a bit of detail with it.

Oh, I don’t know. We saw it this morning. And while I didn’t come away with the same excitement I had when I was 10, seeing Ep. IV for the first time, it certainly gave rise to much conversation at lunch following the showing. I thought the acting was quite good (spoiler alert: Leia’s lips never move), though I wasn’t crazy about Adam Driver (Kylo Ren). The casting was excellent, and I think the new triumvirate of heroes is great. I particularly like Finn. The story solid, if a bit predictable, but isn’t that what you want from a movie like this? It must be hard to live up to the hype and the hope, but I thought Abrams got the balance just right, but I’m also hoping it gets more daring in Ep. VIII. All in all, thoroughly enjoyable, and I plan on seeing it again.

I think the script was the weakest part, really. It had a lot of holes and almost every scene was a repeat of what we have seen before. The practical effects were good, the side characters were good (if sometimes underutilized) but the main storyline and pacing seemed a mess. Without giving any spoilers away, It was really obvious that they had to rush the script and do a lot of re-writes.

That being said, Kylo Ren’s character was my favorite, by far, and the most original part of the movie. I just think they tried too hard to cram a bunch of jokes, actions, and forced nostalgia into the movie at the cost of an original, engaging script that furthered the overall story.

It felt like they wiped away a lot of the intrigue and made it a generic “superhero has magical powers and fights nazis” story, really irreverent of what makes the force and the empire so interesting.

I think I would have taken a bit more substance over style and nostalgia here.

Not better than IV by a long-shot (the pacing and framing are a bit off in VII and the plot points are too samey with IV), but certainly better than I, II, III, and VI.

That said, I saw it on premiere night (in costume!) and again two days later (also in costume!). Totally worth it.
